Occupational Therapy

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. Occupational therapy assists people in developing the "skills for the job of living" necessary for independent and satisfying lives.

How Occupational Therapy Works

Every day, children and adults have or develop health conditions that significantly affect their ability to manage their daily lives. With the help of occupational therapy, many of these individuals can achieve or regain a higher level of independence. When skill and strength cannot be developed or improved, occupational therapy offers creative solutions and alternatives for carrying out daily activities.

According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, occupational therapists have expertise and training in recommending and implementing strategies in every room in the home that could help a person complete daily tasks effectively and efficiently no matter the degree of his or her ability.  These strategies can help a person live independently for many years.

We have found home modifications benefit individuals with disabilities because they allow them to carry out daily tasks with ease.  They help reduce falls, which can reduce healthcare costs, and they allow people to participate in life, making the task easier and enjoyable.

It is CGA Home Modifications desire to educate the community on home safety and fall prevention.  We would like to assist individuals with their accessibility needs.  Whether it is education on fall prevention, home safety, and proper body mechanics or actually implementing the installation of a specific piece of equipment, such as a grab bar, a ramp, or a lift, this will help decrease the number of serious injuries or fatalities due to falls.
